A Little Heads Up

This may interest some of you. It may interest none of you.  It interests me, though, so here it is.

So many people have been fired from the Trump administration that it’s almost to the point that we just shrug.

However, this one matters.

It matters a lot.

If you don’t already know what the Saturday Night Massacre was during the Nixon years, that’s okay. I’m old and I was around then, so I know, but I don’t expect you to.

Here, go read about it.

This is serious stuff. The Nixon saga shook the nation. Before you shrug and say, “Well, politics doesn’t interest me,” this is serious.  It’s one time when politics does affect us all, or has the potential to massively affect us all. Markets shake, rattle and roll when shit like this happens.  When markets get all roiled up, it gets harder to buy a house, get a car loan, buy groceries, get a job.

In the years after the Saturday Night Massacre, Congress stepped in and tried to correct the rules so that future presidents wouldn’t be able to just fire special prosecutors willy-nilly, and it’s a long, detailed story that would bore you completely to death, but it doesn’t matter. Trump can work around those restrictions.

If he fires Rosenstein, and I suspect he is going to unless somebody manages to talk him off the ledge in the next few days, Dave and I are ready.

This is not about political parties. It’s not about anything except that we have to have laws that apply to everyone, and everyone includes the president.  The day we forsake that principle, we become Venezuela or worse.

No one is above the law.

Rod Rosenstein is a perfectly competent man who has nothing whatever to warrant his being fired except that Trump wants Mueller gone. Trump is looking for his own personal Robert Bork, someone who will do his dirty work for him.

This is not about political parties. All the people involved in this, every last one of them, are Republicans.  There is not a Democrat in the bunch. There is no politically motivated plot here. There is just the rule of law.

Mueller needs to finish his investigation, and everyone needs to get out of his way and let him do so. If he finds nothing, so be it.  Then we’ll know and then we can move on.  (Of course, he already has found stuff and people have been indicted, so it’s not nothing.) Stopping now will leave questions hanging forever, and it will undermine the rule of law.  Furthermore, the more desperate Trump gets in his attempts to stop the investigation, the more guilty he looks and the more convinced we all become that there is something there.

So, Dave and I are ready to go.

Here’s the website.

Go over there and take a look.  There is a city listed someplace near you. You can click on that city and find out where they are gathering and all the details for your chosen location.

In our case, we plan to meet at 6 p.m. (Eastern time) on the day Trump does any of that shit (and right now, the worry is that he’ll fire Rosenstein), with an alternate meeting at 6 p.m. the following day if he does it at night. But each city is doing it slightly differently, so check and give them an RSVP so they have some idea of how many people to expect.

Instead of chewing your nails to the quick and screaming into the void, take action.  They notice. You think they don’t, but they do. That’s why so many of them aren’t running for office again.
